A geração da utopia

A Geração da Utopia follows four decades in the lives of Angolans who, to a greater or lesser extent, were involved in the struggle for Angola's independence. The web of relationships between the characters serves as a pretext for exploring major themes: the emergence of power groups within the independence movements; the instrumentalization of independence for their own ends; the disenchantment and abandonment of the utopias that guided the liberation movements. The historical portrait emerges in parallel with the intimate portrait of the characters.
The play tries to evoke in a minimal but realistic way the period and circumstances of the action, from the conservative sixties in Portugal to the nineties in Luanda, passing through the war on the border with Zambia.
