Kommunity Intervention Project

The PIcK – Kommunity Intervention Project is one of the cornerstones of Teatro GRIOT’s work, establishing itself as a space for dialogue between artistic creation, critical thinking, and social engagement.
Created in 2015, the project was born out of the desire to bring the company’s artistic work closer to the realities, voices, and experiences of communities, particularly those of African descent and from marginalised areas.
Over the years, PIcK has consolidated as an ongoing programme that combines Performing Arts Workshops and Public Conversations, creating a space for encounter, experimentation, and listening. The workshops, led by company artists and guest facilitators, foster the development of creative and critical skills among young people and adults through practices involving the body, voice, writing, and performance. The conversations, in turn, extend the reach of theatre into the public sphere, bringing together artists, researchers, activists, and communities to reflect on urgent contemporary issues — from violence and memory to restitution and the right to the city.
The themes explored in the workshops and conversations both derive from and contribute to the research underpinning the company’s productions. This organic relationship between artistic creation and community engagement allows the creative process to be nourished by lived experiences, knowledge, and intergenerational dialogue, making PIcK a living laboratory of thought and practice.
With each edition, PIcK reaffirms Teatro GRIOT’s commitment to the promotion of Afro-descendant cultural expressions and to the construction of new narratives of citizenship, belonging, and social justice.
