TRÓPICOS MECÂNICOS (MUEDA)

TRÓPICOS MECÂNICOS (MUEDA) is a transmedia performance inspired by Afrofuturism and Brazilian Tropicalism, evoking memories and imaginaries surrounding the Mueda Massacre, which took place in Mozambique in 1960 — an event that marked the beginning of the Colonial War in Mozambique. The performance also draws inspiration from the film "Mueda, Memory and Massacre" (1979), by Mozambican-Brazilian filmmaker Ruy Guerra, which documents how the people of Mueda re-enacted the massacre annually as a ritual of collective memory and catharsis.
